Terms of Use

The terms that come with Kodiak Cleaner, the same ones shown inside the app.

Effective date: October 4, 2026

These terms cover your use of Kodiak Cleaner, a free Windows cleaner made by Ted Tabaka, an independent developer. By using Kodiak Cleaner you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Kodiak Cleaner.

Free and Open Source

Kodiak Cleaner is free and open source under the MIT License. You may use, copy, change and share it as that license allows. The license text comes with Kodiak Cleaner in the LICENSE file. If anything in these terms seems to conflict with the MIT License, the MIT License wins.

Beta Software: Use at Your Own Risk

Kodiak Cleaner is still beta software. You use it at your own risk. More testing is needed before we can confirm that every feature works as intended, and as cleaning software it may delete information you didn't mean to remove. Until the first full release, try new features carefully and keep your own backups of anything important.

What Kodiak Cleaner Does

Kodiak Cleaner deletes temporary files, browser data and other items you choose, fixes registry entries you select, turns startup programs and scheduled tasks off or on, uninstalls, repairs or renames programs and removes the leftovers you pick after an uninstall, removes duplicate files, large files and empty folders you pick, manages System Restore points, and can overwrite free space or erase a whole drive. Some of these actions can't be undone.

  • Review what Kodiak Cleaner shows you before you clean, fix, remove or wipe anything.
  • Registry fixes are backed up to a .reg file first unless you choose otherwise. Duplicate files, large files, empty folders and startup shortcuts you remove go to the Recycle Bin.
  • Files the Cleaner deletes, wiped free space and erased drives can't be brought back.
  • Keep your own backups of anything important.

Your Responsibility

You decide what Kodiak Cleaner changes on your computer, and you are responsible for those choices. Use Kodiak Cleaner only on computers you own or are allowed to manage.

No Warranty

Kodiak Cleaner is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, the developer is not liable for any lost data, damage or other loss that comes from using Kodiak Cleaner.

Privacy

Kodiak Cleaner works on your computer. It collects no personal data, sends no usage data and shows no ads. It only goes online to check for updates: when you click Check Now, or once a day if you turn on automatic updates. The Kodiak Cleaner Privacy Policy explains this in full.

Supporting Kodiak Cleaner

Supporting Kodiak Cleaner on Ko-fi is optional and is a one-time thank-you. A supporter code unlocks small extras such as the Glacier theme. Every cleaning feature works without one.

Changes to These Terms

These terms may be updated in a new version of Kodiak Cleaner. The effective date at the top shows when they last changed.
